Zsa Zsa Gabor, The Pioneer Of Celebrity Died At 99

Zsa Zsa Gabor, The Pioneer Of Celebrity Died At 99

Zsa Zsa Gabor pioneered the concept of celebrity as a career. Her beauty, business savvy and hunger for life and love gave her a beautiful life.

Zsa Zsa Gabor was born in Budapest (Hungary) and arrived in Hollywood in her twenties following her actress sister Eva Gabor.

Zsa Zsa was a Miss Hungary in 1936. Her beauty immediately attracted Hollywood’s attention and she was cast in several supporting roles in major movie studios’ productions. She’s had very few starring or even noteworthy roles. The first of them was in Moulin Rouge (1952) opposite Jose Ferrer. Right after, she returned to playing supporting roles.

By 1960s Zsa Zsa transformed herself into what we’d call today a celebrity and made a career out of being herself; it’s only fair to say that she’s done it very well. She’s made many cameo appearances and had a number of bigger roles (“The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear” in 1991 and “The Ruby Wax Show” in 1997) and smaller ones as herself or making fun of herself.

One of the biggest scandals of her life ensued when upon being stopped for driving a car with an expired tag in 1989, she was pulled over by a Beverly Hills police officer. With a typical Zsa Zsa temperament she slapped him! The incident was followed by a brief trial during which she was found guilty. Zsa Zsa had to pay just over $25,000 in costs and fines; she was also sentenced to jail (she served three days) and 120 hours of community service.

Throughout her career she’s managed to captivate the media, play a significant role on the Hollywood scene, develop herself into a “brand”, and amass a fortune. Along the way, the fierce Hungarian has had a rich personal life; suffice to say she’s been married NINE times……….

She’s best known for her charming foreign accent; the infamous incident during which she’s slapped a Beverly Hills cop; her nine husbands (one of whom was Conrad Hilton with whom she’s had her only child), and – of course! – her insights on men. These are some of her thoughts:

“A girl must marry for love, and keep on marrying until she finds it.”

“I believe in large families: every woman should have at least three husbands.”

“I have never hated a man enough to give his diamonds back.”

“To a smart girl men are no problem – they’re the answer.”

“I am a marvelous housekeeper. Every time I leave a man I keep his house.”
“You never really know a man until you have divorced him.”

When a curious interviewer asked how many husbands she’s had, Zsa Zsa replied: “You mean other than my own?”

Gabor’s good life took a dive after she’s been injured in a car accident in 2002. The accident left her partially paralyzed. Further health problems soon followed. She suffered a stroke in 2005. In 2012 her leg had to be amputated due to infection. Zsa Zsa – the life of the party for so many years! – spent the last years of her life bedridden. Gabor died of a heart attack at 99. The last years of her life not withstanding, she’s had a long and beautiful life.

Zsa Zsa Gabor may not have been the most beautiful actress in Hollywood, the most accomplished one, or even the most popular one. But she’s certainly done incredibly well; she reached for the stars and became a star in her own right: famous for being famous. Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian West and a bevy of other beauties whose only claim to fame is “celebrity” follow the trail blazed by Zsa Zsa Gabor.

Adam Krief with his wife

Adam Krief with his wife Lia

Adam Krief is 31. He loves his wife and their 3 small children. He has a lifelong passion for L.A. Lakers. He also has blood cancer. A matching bone marrow donation – in his case! – is THE CURE. He will die unless a matching bone marrow donor is found, QUICKLY. See Adam before hospitalization.

Adam was diagnosed on July 1st of this year with a rare – and terminal – type of blood cancer (primary myelofibrosis). He is being given chemotherapy not as a treatment but to afford him time to find a matching donor. The donation that Adam Krief needs is a peripheral blood stem cell donation. (PBS is a type of non-surgical blood donation.) Out of the over 13 million people currently registered as donors, none is a match for Adam. Several thousand people have already stepped up to help, but so far no match was found. Adam Krief’s cause is supported by communities throughout the United States and internationally. Kim Kardashian asked her fans to get tested for a possible match for Adam Krief. The effort is snowballing.

According to BeTheMatch.org, blood cancer is the number two cause of cancer death in the United States. When it comes to children, no other disease kills more children than blood cancer.

Kim Kardashian Robbed In Paris

Photo: Eduardo Munoz / Reuters

Kim Kardashian West – who is attending the Fashion Week in Paris – was held at a gunpoint in her luxury apartment at Hotel de Pourtales by two armed robbers wearing masks and police uniforms. Kim was tied up and left in the bathroom. The robbers left with an estimated 11 million dollars worth of Kim’s jewelry.

Upon learning of his wife’s traumatic experience – during his concert in New York! – Kim’s husband Kanye West immediately cancelled the rest of the concert due to “family emergency”. The audience unaware of details of the situation was stunned.

French authorities are investigating the incident. It isn’t known whether the couple’s children witnessed the robbery.

Kanye West The Master Of HypeKanye West is talented, accomplished and successful. He has a long list of achievements as a recording artist, songwriter, producer, fashion designer and businessman.

But Kanye has another talent which gets way too little recognition. He is brilliant when it comes to generating publicity. As most of us know by now, West was never a hoodlum, his public persona is of his own creation. He is a child of well-educated, cultured parents. His mother – Dr. Donda West – undoubtedly raised him with the awareness of what is – and what isn’t – socially acceptable. Considering Kanye’s upbringing, his frequent faux pas (social “slips”) seem to be a deliberate strategy at generating publicity. Still, Kanye West doesn’t shy away from controversy, he seems to be thriving AND capitalizing on it.

He follows the maxim, ANY publicity is good publicity. Kanye has a history of attracting attention with his outrageous public behavior.

  • His verbal attack at President George W. Bush during a live TV broadcast following Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
  • West interrupting Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech during 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
  • His marriage to Kim Kardashian which continues to be a publicity gift that keeps on giving…. (At the beginning of their romance, many suspected that the coupling was a sham concocted solely for publicity’s sake.)

Kanye West’s latest and again, profitable use of publicity is the way he sells his “The Life of Pablo” line of clothing, inspired by his 2016 album by the same name.

The Life of Pablo pop-up store in L.A.

The conventional way of selling branded clothing calls for a Website or a brick-and-mortar store. Either venue would have produced sales for Kanye. Naturally, the sales would be highest following the opening and then slow down. Kanye liked the idea of initial enthusiasm but not the typical slow down afterwards and came up with an idea to keep the good part only – strong sales, high level of enthusiasm and appearance of scarcity that increases demand – while avoiding tedious slow sales, aging stock and on-going overhead. Hence, Kanye’s popup stores.

His weekend popup store in New Your City made a million dollars over a weekend! (Can the number be exaggerated? Quite possibly, after all the number comes from the hype master himself.)

Kanye’s Los Angeles popup store (at 346 N. Fairfax Avenue) is booming as we speak, it’s open from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. this weekend, Aug. 19-21.

It appears that there is no stopping Kanye. His popup stores are scheduled to make a one weekend appearance allover the US (among the ities mentioned are Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit, San Francisco and Portland) and the world (among the locations are cities in Australia, Africa, Asia and Europe). To contribute to the anticipatory excitement, exact dates are to be released only 24 hours in advance on kanyewest.com.

His many talents not withstanding, Kanye West is a gifted (albeit not classy) publicist. His latest venture, The Life of Pablo pop-up stores – a breakthrough in creating shopping fiver – certainly proves it.

Kanye West: like him or not, one has to agree that the man is inventive and knows how to create hype! Come to think of it, the Kim Kardashian / Kanye West marriage could be a match made in Heaven, after all: each of the spouses is a master of hype….
