Memorable moments of 2017 Golden Globes:

Jimmy Fallon’s teleprompter malfunction: the veteran of Saturday Night Live took it in stride. Fallon didn’t lose control and carried on the show as if nothing happened.

Meryl Streep’s acceptance speech, in addition to her appreciation for the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award, shared her thoughts on the arts, journalism and freedom of the press. It was a strong political statement.
What makes an artist great is sensitivity and passion. Meryl Streep is the greatest American actress of our time: the body of her work, the awards she received and her immense popularity prove it. She has extra-ordinary sensitivity and passion. Her Golden Globes acceptance speech – which came from the same sensitivity and passion that make her one-of-a-kind artist – made her the target of the President Elect’s wrath. Aren’t artists SUPPOSED TO BE the conscience of a country?…. (Read about the impact of Streep’s speech.)

Viola Davis – 2017 Golden Globe Supporting Actress Winner (for Fences) dramatic acceptance speech and a moving introduction for Meryl Streep. (Later on, backstage Davis was asked by a reporter about her reaction to Meryl Streep’s speech. To paraphrase, Viola Davis said: there is no way that we can have a President that doesn’t represent our values. If we do, what does it say about us?)

The closing words of this brief report on the 2017 Golden Globes belong to this year’s Golden Globe Best Actress In Drama Winner, the magnificent French actress Isabelle Huppert (for her role in Elle), who expressed the feelings of the entertainment industry best: “Don’t expect the cinema to set walls and borders.”
