On Saturday 09/17/16 just after 8:30 pm ET an explosive device exploded in a trash bin on 133 W. 23rd St., between Sixth and Seventh Avenues in Chelsea neighborhood, Manhattan, NY injuring 29 people. 28 of the injuries are not life-threatening. One person is said to be in critical conditions. Shortly after the explosion on 23rd Street, a pressure cooker device with a cell phone taped to it (an apparent IED) was located only four blocks from the initial explosion on West 27th Street. The device didn’t explode and was removed safely. Another explosion took place in Seaside Park in New Jersey earlier in the day where a pipe bomb exploded while runners were preparing for a charity race. No one was hurt.

On the same Saturday, a Somali Muslim man, Dahir Adan stabbed nine people at the Minnesota Crossroads Mall before being shot dead by an off-duty police officer. ISIS claims “credit” for the Minnesota attack.

Five suspects were detained by the FBI in New York on Sunday in connection with Saturday’s explosion in Chelsea Manhattan, NY. Suspected in the 23rd Street and New Jersey explosions, Ahmad Khan Rahami, is in custody. Authorities now believe that the events of past Saturday are acts of terrorism.
