Adam Krief with his wife

Adam Krief with his wife Lia

Adam Krief is 31. He loves his wife and their 3 small children. He has a lifelong passion for L.A. Lakers. He also has blood cancer. A matching bone marrow donation – in his case! – is THE CURE. He will die unless a matching bone marrow donor is found, QUICKLY. See Adam before hospitalization.

Adam was diagnosed on July 1st of this year with a rare – and terminal – type of blood cancer (primary myelofibrosis). He is being given chemotherapy not as a treatment but to afford him time to find a matching donor. The donation that Adam Krief needs is a peripheral blood stem cell donation. (PBS is a type of non-surgical blood donation.) Out of the over 13 million people currently registered as donors, none is a match for Adam. Several thousand people have already stepped up to help, but so far no match was found. Adam Krief’s cause is supported by communities throughout the United States and internationally. Kim Kardashian asked her fans to get tested for a possible match for Adam Krief. The effort is snowballing.

According to BeTheMatch.org, blood cancer is the number two cause of cancer death in the United States. When it comes to children, no other disease kills more children than blood cancer.

Adam Krief With Two Of His Children

Anything L.A. Magazine helped spread the news about Adam Krief’s pursuit of a matching bone marrow donor. We watched the pursuit’s progress. Thousands of people came forward to get tested. (There are MANY caring and compassionate people out there!) Unfortunately, no matching donor was found, yet.

Having watched the search for a matching donor from the sidelines, Anything L.A. Magazine is now preparing to hold a Bone Marrow Donor Drive of our own in the hope of finding a match for Adam Krief, before it’s too late.

Bone Marrow Donor Drive isn’t quite what the name suggests. No one will be donating bone marrow during the drive. It is really about getting TESTED. The test involves a Q-Tip swab inside a cheek: no blood or pain is involved!

Consider getting tested! One of us is THE CURE for Adam Krief. Right now, it’s about Adam. Considering the fact how common and deadly blood cancer is, down the line it might be about someone you love.
