THE ACADEMY SELECTS 2014 AND 2015 SHOW DATES KEY DATES ANNOUNCED FOR THE OSCARS®

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the ABC Television Network today announced the dates for the 86th and 87th Oscar® presentations. The 86th and 87th Academy Awards® will air live on ABC on Oscar Sunday, March 2, 2014, and February 22, 2015, respectively.

Key dates for the Awards season are: Saturday, November 16, 2013: The Governors Awards  Monday, December 2, 2013: Official Screen Credits due Friday, December 27, 2013: Nominations voting begins Wednesday, January 8, 2014: Nominations voting ends 5 p.m. PT Thursday, January 16, 2014: Oscar nominations announced  Monday, February 10, 2014: Nominees Luncheon Friday, February 14, 2014: Final voting begins Saturday, February 15, 2014: Scientific and Technical Awards  Tuesday, February 25, 2014: Final voting ends 5 p.m. PT Oscar Sunday, March 2, 2014: 86th Academy Awards    Oscar Sunday, February 22, 2015: 87th Academy Awards

The 86th and 87th Academy Awards ceremonies will be held at the Dolby Theatre™ at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood, and will be televised live by the ABC Television Network.

 Actors Chris Pine and Zoe Saldana will host the Academy of Motion Picture

Arts and Sciences’ Scientific and Technical AwaSaturday, February 9, at The Beverly Hills Hotel.

                            ACADEMY'S SCI-TECH AWARDS

They will present nine awards to 25 individual recipients during the evening.”We are thrilled to have Chris and Zoe host the Sci-Tech Awards,” said Academy President Hawk Koch.  “Their film experience with the kind of technical advancements these awards honor makes them the perfect pair for the job.”

Pine starred in “Star Trek” in 2009 and will reprise his role as James T. Kirk in the sequel, “Star Trek Into Darkness,” due out in May.  He also will be seen in the title role of the upcoming feature “Jack Ryan,” with Keira Knightley and Kevin Costner.  Pine’s other credits include the animated feature “Rise of the Guardians,” “People Like Us,” “This Means War” and “Unstoppable.”

Saldana, who co-starred as Uhura in “Star Trek,” will reprise her role in the sequel as well.  She also will be seen in “Blood Ties,” with Mila Kunis and Marion Cotillard, due out later this year.  Her other credits include “Colombiana,” “Avatar” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.”

Portions of the Scientific and Technical Awards Presentation, produced this year by David Friendly, will be included in the Oscar® telecast.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2012 will be presented on Sunday, February 24, at the Dolby Theatre™ at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live on the ABC Television Network.  The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.

OSCAR® NOMINATIONS VOTING OPENS MONDAY TO 5,856 ACADEMY VOTERS

Oscar Nominations Voting Opens Monday

Nominations voting for the 85th Academy Awards® will open at 8 a.m. PT, Monday, December 17, for the 5,856 voting members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.  Members will have until 5 p.m. PT, Thursday, January 3, 2013, to vote electronically or mail in a paper ballot. Any paper ballots received after the deadline will not be counted.

Nominations and final Awards ballots will be tabulated and verified by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to ensure that all aspects of the balloting process are accurate and secure.

This will be the first year the Academy is providing its membership the opportunity to vote electronically. Several voting resources will be available to members, including assisted voting stations in Los Angeles, New York and London, and a 24-hour support call center during voting periods.

The 85th Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

7 FEATURES ADVANCE IN RACE FOR MAKEUP AND HAIRSTYLING OSCAR®

7 Features Advance in Race for Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that seven films remain in competition in the Makeup and Hairstyling category for the 85th Academy Awards®.

The films are listed below in alphabetical order:

     “Hitchcock”
     “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”
     “Les Misérables”
     “Lincoln”
     “Looper”
     “Men in Black 3”
     “Snow White and the Huntsman”

On Saturday, January 5, all members of the Academy’s Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Branch will be invited to view 10-minute excerpts from each of the seven shortlisted films. Following the screenings, members will vote to nominate three films for final Oscar consideration.

The 85th Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that 15 films in the Documentary Feature category will advance in the voting process for the 85th Academy Awards®. One hundred twenty-six pictures had originally qualified in the category.

The Documentary Branch viewed the eligible documentaries for the preliminary round of voting. Documentary Branch members will now select the five nominees from among the 15 titles on the shortlist.

10 CONTENDERS REMAIN IN VFX OSCAR® RACE The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that 10 films remain in the running in the Visual Effects category for the 85th Academy Awards®.
