This is a slightly silly item about a karaoke party we are having after a couple of the performances of The Second City’s “A Christmas Carol:  Twist Your Dickens!”  I thought you might be interested:

Following the performance of The Second City’s “A Christmas Carol: Twist Your Dickens!” on Fridays December 21 and 28, Gino Santini, the lyrically challenged crooner played by Larry Joe Campbell, will be bursting through the fourth wall to host a post-show karaoke party.

Campbell plays countless characters in the twisted telling of Charles Dickens’ holiday classic, including multi-platinum recording artists Gino Santini who refuses to be “a slave to the words.” Gino will welcome theatregoers to join the party at the karaoke machine after the show.  Festivities will continue and the bar will stay open for an hour after final curtain.

Written by Second City alums, Peter Gwinn (formerly of “The Colbert Report”) and Bobby Mort (currently of “The Colbert Report”), The Second City’s “A Christmas Carol: Twist Your Dickens!,” which opened  November 29 and must close December 30, 2012, is directed by Marc Warzecha (Resident Director, The Second City).  In addition to Larry Joe Armstrong (best known for “According to Jim”), the cast features Frank Caeti (“MADtv”), Dan Castellaneta (“The Simpsons”), Amanda Blake Davis (“Second City Does Dallas” at the Dallas Theatre Center), Brian Stepanek (“The Suite Life of Zack and Cody”),  Jean Villepique (“Up All Night”) and Ron West (“3rd Rock from the Sun”).

Tickets for “A Christmas Carol: Twist Your Dickens!” are available by calling (213) 628-2772, online at www.CenterTheatreGroup.org, in person at the Center Theatre Group box office at the Ahmanson Theatre or two hours prior to performances at the Kirk Douglas Theatre box office. The Second City’s “A Christmas Carol: Twist Your Dickens!”

Noted television personality, author and political gadfly Stephen Colbert has an issue with Charles Dickens over The Second City’s “A Christmas Carol: Twist Your Dickens!”  The two writers of the new holiday classic, Peter Gwinn and Bobby Mort, are former and current writers, respectively, of “The Colbert Report.”

In a statement received by The Second City, Colbert states:

“The Second City’s ‘A Christmas Carol’ was created by two of my writers!  This Dickens jerk better have a good lawyer.”

– Stephen Colbert, Host of The Colbert Report, Second City Class of ’94

Reached for comment at an undisclosed location, CTG Artistic Director Michael Ritchie said “This is between Stephen and Charlie.  We don’t want to take sides.”

The Second City’s “A Christmas Carol: Twist Your Dickens!” opens November 29, 2012, at Center Theatre Group’s Kirk Douglas Theatre. Previews begin November 24 and performances will run through December 30.
