Artists from many areas of film production and creation were honored by the Academy (short and documentary film makers, foreign directors, actors and producers, animators, production set designers, editors, make up and wardrobe artists, to name just a few categories) with the much-coveted Oscar statue.

When it comes to feature films, there were surprises. During the spectacular 85th Annual Academy Award event, the industry’s celebrities announced 2013 Academy Award Winners; they were:

  • Best Picture: “Argo.”
  • Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis, “Lincoln”
  • Best Actress: Jennifer Lawrence, “Silver Linings Playbook”
  • Best Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz, “Django Unchained”
  • Best Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway, “Les Miserables”
  • Best Directing: Ang Lee, “Life of Pi
  • Best Original Screenplay: Quentin Tarantino, “Django Unchained”

In an interview shortly after “Argo” was awarded 2013 Academy Award for the Best Film, Ben Affleck said: “You know what, you’re not entitled to anything. I’m honored to be here. I’m honored to be among these extraordinary movies, and I’m really, really honored to win an Academy Award.”
