The full cast is set for the Center Theatre Group / Mark Taper Forum production of “The Price” by Pulitzer Prize, Tony Award and National Medal of Honor-winner Arthur Miller. The penetrating family drama by one of America’s greatest dramatists will open the Mark Taper Forum’s new season February 11 through March 22, 2015, with the opening set for February 21st 2015.

Directed by Tony Award-winner (“The Beauty Queen of Leenane”) Garry Hynes, this poignant story about the cost of choices made over a lifetime will feature John Bedford Lloyd, Sam Robards and the previously announced Kate Burton and Alan Mandell.

Two brothers who haven’t spoken to each other in 16 years come together to settle their late father’s estate. Victor(played by Sam Robards), a police officer of 28 years, his brother, Walter (John Bedford Lloyd), a successful surgeon, and Victor’s wife, Esther (Kate Burton), gather in the attic of the family’s New York brownstone, where they are met by Solomon, a wise and wily antiques dealer (Alan Mandell). It is not only years of accumulation of family belongings that need sorting out, but also the hidden motives that long ago fractured the brothers’ relationship.

An American classic, “The Price” first opened on Broadway in 1968, and Clive Barnes, writing for The New York Times, said the play was “… one of the most engrossing and entertaining plays that Miller has ever written.”

The plays of Arthur Miller (1915-2005) include “The Man Who Had All the Luck” (1944), “All My Sons” (1947), “Death of a Salesman” (1949), “The Crucible” (1953), “A View From the Bridge” and “A Memory of Two Mondays” (1955), “After the Fall” and “Incident at Vichy” (1964), “The Price” (1968), “The Creation of the World and Other Business” (1972), “The Archbishop’s Ceiling” (1977) and “The American Clock” (1980), among others. He wrote the screenplay for “The Misfits” (1960), and several books including three with his wife, photographer Inge Morath. He received countless awards including the Pulitzer Prize (for “Death of a Salesman”), three Tony Awards as well as a Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement, two Emmy Awards, and the John F. Kennedy Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Civilians’ “Pretty Filthy” A New Musical About “The Other Hollywood” CTG’s Commission

The Civilians’ “Pretty Filthy” At Abrons Arts Center, New York City

The Civilians’ “Pretty Filthy,” A New Musical About “The Other Hollywood,” with music and lyrics by Michael Friedman, book by Bess Wohl and directed by Steve Cosson, is set to open January 31 and play through March 1, 2015, at the Abrons Arts Center in New York City.

The piece was commissioned by Center Theatre Group in 2009 and developed through workshops, residencies and public presentations, including “A Pretty Filthy Evening” in 2011 at the Kirk Douglas Theatre.

Armed with their notepads and recorders, The Civilians crossed the mountain range that divides Hollywood from the “other Hollywood” – the San Fernando Valley, world capital of porn. The Civilians’ crew conducted interviews and visited sets to get an insider’s glimpse into a world that is far more than the sum of its (very) visible parts.

The creative team learned firsthand that the words of one interviewee, the legendary Nina Hartley, were quite true: “sex on camera is far less sexy and far more ridiculous than you might think.” The Civilians’ time in the Valley captured a singular time in our culture; this digital era that has radically transformed the business of sex. “Pretty Filthy” is ultimately a story about trying to make a life and a living in an ever-changing world – a task that is all the more complicated when your work is so intimately tied to customer “satisfaction.”

The Civilians is the center for investigative theatre supporting the development and production of new theatre from creative inquiries into the most vital questions of the present. Twelve original shows have been created from community residencies, interviews and extensive research. Center Theatre Group also presented The Civilians’ “This Beautiful City” in 2008 at the Kirk Douglas Theatre. “This Beautiful City” was a co-production with the Vineyard Theatre, New York.

Kelly Carlin
Born in Dayton, Ohio in 1963, Kelly Carlin grew up watching her father, George Carlin, become a counter-culture hero with his comedy. As a child, Kelly explored her own creativity by writing skits and doing imitations (her Ethel Merman was quite good for an eight year old). She began her professional life in her teens working behind the scenes with her mother, Brenda, on various shows for HBO that continued into her twenties. In 1993, at the ripe age of 30, she graduated from UCLA, Magna Cum Laude, with a B.A. in Communications Studies. While at UCLA, Kelly discovered her voice as a writer, which led her to a career in writing for film and TV with her husband Robert McCall. After her mother’s death in 1997, Kelly pursued her craft through a less mainstream project – a one-woman show called Driven To Distraction. In 2001, Kelly stepped away from the family business to pursue her masters in Jungian Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. She studied mythology, Jungian psychology and the intersection of art and the sacred. Presently, Kelly hosts The Kelly Carlin Show on SiriusXM, and Waking from the American Dream on SModcast Network. Based on her current solo show, the memoir A Carlin Home Companion, will be published by St. Martin’s Press in 2015.

Put a little soul in your holiday season with 94.7 The WAVE’s Soulful Christmas 2014 featuring Kenny G, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds and Brenda Russell on Saturday, December 13th at Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE. Tickets available now at

Kenny G has had one of the most eclectic and dominant careers the music business has ever seen. He’s maintained a high level of creative excellence through decades of unprecedented commercial success by never allowing himself to stay in one place too long. That reputation for musical curiosity stays well intact on his fourteenth studio album Brazilian Nights, set for release on January 27, 2015 via Concord Records.

Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, a 10-time Grammy winner with 11 solo albums of his own, impeccably crafted explorations of love, romance and relationships and has made an indelible imprint on the evolution of contemporary pop music throughout the world: more than 130 Top-10 R&B and Pop hits, 43 #1 R&B hits, and 51 Top-10 Pop hits (including 16 #1’s), which have produced single and album sales in excess of 600 million units worldwide. Most recently Kenny Edmonds produced latest albums for Barbra Streisand, Aretha Franklin, Colbie Caillat, Celine Dion, and the duet with Toni Braxton, Love Marriage & Divorce. His new solo album will be release in 2015.

Brenda Russell’s unique musical perspective, intimate voice and prolific treasure-trove of lyrics, prove that a truly glowing talent only deepens with time. Composer of the classics “Get Here,” “If Only For One Night,” and the Grammy-nominated “Piano In The Dark,” Brenda’s songwriting prowess and chameleon-like ability to shift between musical genres and combine styles trumpeted ovations in 2005 with the opening of the Tony Award-winning hit Broadway musical The Color Purple–a show for which she, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray co-wrote the music and lyrics. Brenda and her co-authors were also nominated for a 2007 Grammy in the Best Musical Show Album category for the original cast album.

Cameron Exhibition At MOCA

Cameron, East Angel, n.d., courtesy of the Cameron Parsons Foundation, Santa Monica. Photo Credit: Alan Shaffer

Cameron (1922-1995) was an artist, performer, poet, occult practitioner, and provocateur who lived in Los Angeles after World War II and uniquely bridged the city’s flourishing spiritual and art worlds. A pivotal though under-recognized figure, she is closely associated with Beat artists such as Wallace Berman, George Herms, and Dennis Hopper, filmmaker Kenneth Anger, and occultists Aleister Crowley and Jack Parsons, her husband for a time. She is best known for her paintings and drawings of human and fantastical figures and had a long career, spending her last years in West Hollywood. Cameron: Songs for the Witch Woman, organized by guest curator Yael Lipschutz, is the largest comprehensive survey of Cameron’s work since 1989 and includes approximately 98 artworks and ephemeral artifacts. MOCA Senior Curator Alma Ruiz is the coordinating curator.

Go and see the artistic legacy of an incredible woman-artist, one of the pioneers of Los Angeles’ postwar counterculture.
